Mushroom D2Z: A Must Have in 2020
Since this whole thing started, we’ve been pretty adamant that no supplement will protect you against COVID.
The only caveat to that statement is Vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency is correlated to poorer COVID outcomes. But, if you’re one of my peeps, you’re already rocking the Vital Five, which Vitamin D is a part of.
Despite all of this, zinc, elderberry, Vitamin C, and more have flown off the shelf in a manner matching the unprecedented nature of our times.
I’ve conceded. I helped folks identify Immune Boosting Therapies, helped identify what is a sham and what isn’t, and how to buy the RIGHT product. Expectations are most important; we covered in depth what really could happen if you use them.
In other words, there are a few things we can get behind. I think we’ve found a way to consolidate it into one supplement.
Today, I’m introducing a new product that my friend Skye Chilton has formulated. Skye is the founder of Real Mushrooms and is a second generation mushroom master.
This new product is Mushroom D2Z, which is actually quite a snazzy name when you think about it.
What is Mushroom D2Z?
Mushroom D2Z is a combination product that contains Vitamin D, two immune-boosting mushroom extracts, and Zinc. D2Z is a snazzy name, right?
D2Z is all a girl could ask for to help with immune health!
Let’s dig into the product a bit deeper
Vitamin D - From Mushrooms!
We’ve identified, via evidence, that optimal Vitamin D levels have a “protective effect” against COVID (and other respiratory diseases).
Truth be told, that’s not really the case. The truth is Vitamin D deficiency will increase your risk, and therefore we should make Vitamin D optimization a HIGH PRIORITY to eliminate the risks.
Extra Vitamin D won’t help you, but too little will hurt you.
The big controversy, for some, will be the fact that this product is Vitamin D2 from mushrooms, not Vitamin D3 from sheep wool, cod liver, or algae.
We’ve touched on this before, but here it is again: Vitamin D3 has better bioavailability and persists in the blood longer than D2 does.
Here’s an example using a single, big dose of Vitamin D2 vs D3:
We can see that the D levels are the same for the first 3 or so days, but then it dropped off.
If you were to take your D2 once a week, you’d be in trouble.
BUT, if you took your pills consistently, missing no more than 3 days in a row, you’d have NO PROBLEM maintaining Vitamin D levels with D2.
Vitamin D2 is as effective as D3 if taken consistently at the right dose.
Most folks in 2020 (read: researchers, not charlatans) are on board with D2 and D3 having little clinical difference.
My general recommendations in-store tend to favor D3 for a few reasons. It could be dosed once a week, it’s pretty cheap, and it allows for super small softgels.
That being said, since my followers are probably already using mushrooms for immune health, they can upgrade. With Mushroom D2Z, they get the same amount of beta-glucans, PLUS get Vitamin D and Zinc.
Zinc That’s Just Like Goldilocks—Just Right!
I try to bring attention to two considerations for zinc: taking more than 30mg could interfere with hormone production in men and women, and the form (kinda) matters.
First, the form. Minerals don’t exist freely; they’re always bound to something. What it’s bound to dictates how much you receive per dose and how your body handles it. I’d prefer no one used things like zinc oxide or citrate, and instead used a better chelate like glycinate or bisglycinate.
The zinc in this product is just right!
Magic Mushrooms for Immune Health
The reason is that most of the other daily products will have minimal impact on how you feel. Mushrooms, when done correctly, will actually improve important markers of the immune system.
Beta-glucans, in some trials, have had direct antiviral activity.
But, most mushrooms supplements aren’t real mushrooms. You can’t skimp on quality in supplements, and you should ONLY work with brands that meet or exceed my standards for quality supplements–especially mushrooms.
Incorporating Mushroom D2Z Into Your Supplement Strategy
Since this single product solves three problems, many people may want to switch to it. How do we do that if we’re already using one or more of these ingredients, but separately?
I think it’s as simple as using up what you have first.
It wouldn’t be wise to take zinc and/or immune-formulated mushrooms (like 5 Defenders) along with this product.
So finish those other products up FIRST, then switch to this. Alternatively, switch to this and keep those others for a rainy day!
If you’re ONLY using Vitamin D right now and want to add this, in most cases you’ll be fine doing both for a short period of time.
Here’s an example: some folks might only have 1000 IU of Vitamin D. If they add that to the Mushroom D2Z, they’re only at 3,000 IU of Vitamin D.
My advice is the same as always: keep Vitamin D total daily doses less than 7000 IU and you will probably be more than fine.
So, if you are using ONLY Vitamin D and want to start using this, I see no problem combining the two until the Vitamin D runs out, as long as the total daily dose is less than 7000 IU daily.
Mushroom D2Z: A One Stop Immune Health Shop
Because I “keep it real,” I want to reiterate that the proven strategies for preventing and managing COVID come down to social distancing, handwashing, and mask wearing. Maintaining Vitamin D status in the optimal range certainly should be prioritized if you haven’t already.
Too many supplements are filled with hype, especially now. We have to find the gold in them thar hills!
I believe using Mushroom D2Z is a mechanism to get the immune health benefits of real mushrooms while supplementing the perfect amount of Vitamin D and Zinc, in forms that your body will use, without question.
Just trying to keep it real...
